A lovely week was had in Miss Murray and Miss Kearney’s classes as the P1 and P2’s throughly enjoyed their first days back in school since December 2020. So much fun was had through play based learning as the classes utilised all the fantastic resources that Sacred Heart has, indoor and outdoor. It was great to have you all back!
*** School Return P1/P2/P3 *** It was with great delight this morning that we welcomed back our P1, P2 and P3 classes to Sacred Heart. The boys and girls have been out of school for nearly three months. The joy on their faces said it all as they walked through the school gates today. The staff were equally happy to see the children back as we now further prepare for a fun first week back in school.
Makaton is a language programme that uses signs together with speech and symbols, to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention, listening, comprehension, memory and expressive speech and language. Sacred Heart are currently engaged in a Shared Education partnership with Knockevin Special School. As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, both schools decided to collaborate on a ‘Makaton Challenge.’
Screen time and the hours spent staring into devices is often a concern most parents have at one time or another. To integrate into their daily schedules, the pupils of Sacred Heart took part in scavenger hunts this week. The aim was to spend time away from screens and enjoy a different type of pursuit. It was great to see our children being fully active and enjoying alternative environments. The sensory element to it brought a whole different dynamic to the challenges.
